History of Language Learning and Teaching

History of Language Learning and Teaching

This research network (HoLLT.net) exists to stimulate and promote research into the history of language learning and teaching within applied linguistics internationally. Such research will help us understanding historical developments and furnish necessary historical perspectives for professional reflection on how language education is or should be carried out today, including – for example – in the areas of language education policies, curricular and textbook reform initiatives and enhancement of  teacher training and teaching methodology in different contexts.

The 4th International Conference on Writing Analytics: Writing Analytics, Data Mining, and Student Success (http://toolsforwriters.com/)

Held on the University of South Florida's St. Petersburg campus from January 12-13, 2017, this conference provides a forum for researchers and faculty from writing studies, predictive analytics, and corpus linguistics to explore the emergence of writing analytics and data mining as a primary concern for academe, and as a method to develop fairness in assessment practices and thereby facilitate student success.

Featured speakers will report on pioneering efforts in big data studies and progress in developing intelligent tutorial systems and artificial intelligence. Conference attendees will explore how scores and comments on writing projects in the freshman year can be used to increase retention and student success.

This conference also marks the launch of the Journal of Writing Analytics (http://journalofwritinganalytics.org). The editors will host a session during the conference to describe the mission of the journal and encourage manuscript proposals. Sponsored by the Colorado State University Open Press, Analytics encourages new perspectives on writing research. Those registered for the conference are especially welcome to submit publications for the inaugural 2017 issue.

You can register for the conference at (http://bit.ly/2fxYCEg). Early registration closes on 12/1/16, and we anticipate not being able to meet demand so we encourage you to register asap. Given the conference falls right before a holiday weekend (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), you may want to extend your stay to visit our beaches.
