Getting started: TAAL. Raising the profile of applied linguistics in Thailand
“TAAL being a member of AILA provides great opportunities for Thai applied linguistics researchers to become active participants in the international research community – for example with the help of AILA Research Networks”, says Sonthida Keyuravong, President, Thailand Association for Applied Linguistics (TAAL).
TAAL hopes to benefit from the experiences of other AILA affiliates in raising the profile of applied linguistics in Thailand. In a next step, TAAL will co-host the 4th Doing Research in Applied Linguistics (DRAL) Conference, which focuses on the interplay of research methodology and the investigation of language use. The conference will be held at King Mongkut‘s University of Technology Thonburi.
In organizing the DRAL conference, TAAL collaborateswith the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL) and the Singapore Association for Applied Linguistics (SAAL). MAAL, SAAL, and TAAL are the founding members of the regional AILA network in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region.
