Description

At the Karlsruhe University of Education a joint position between the Institute for Multilingualism (English Department) and the Language Learning Centre is available from June 1 2023 until March 31 2024, with a possibility for extension. This is a 50% parental leave replacement position and corresponds to the 13 TV-L paygrade.

The successful candidate will perform teaching services in the English Department (teaching obligation of 2 courses per week each semester). The candidate will teach teacher training courses at the Bachelor or Master level, in the areas of Applied Linguistics, the Psychology of language learning, Second Language Acquisition and / or English Didactics.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the planning, administering, and evaluating of examinations, to be involved in administrative tasks and will have the opportunity to participate in research activities.

In addition to duties related to the English Department the candidate will also be in charge of the Language Learning Centre. Here the candidate will be expected to oversee the yearly budget, plan the language courses each semester and manage the team of language teachers. As manager of the Centre, the candidate will also coordinate with other service institutes of the University, such as Library Services or the International Office.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • PhD in (English) Applied Linguistics, Language Didactics, Second Language Acquisition or related field
  • Teaching experience at the university level - Excellent knowledge of English (teaching will take place in English)
  • Very good knowledge of German

Preferred:

  • Extended stay in an English-speaking country
  • Research experience, interest in contributing toward research projects and/or obtaining additional academic qualifications
