Goals

The goal of the Solidarity Award Fund (SAF) is to raise an endowment fund to support scholars to attend AILA meetings (held every three years). These awards are for scholars whose papers are accepted for presentation at the conference, but who are from parts of the world where economies make it difficult, if not prohibitive, for them to travel to the conference. These individuals are the future of our profession and will be the leaders in Applied Linguistics in their countries. The goal of $50,000 for this fundraising campaign would provide funds for this purpose.

Fund-Raising Plan

SAF giving will be solicited in five recognized categories. In all instances gifts can be made in a single contribution or as a pledge over three years.

1. Foundation Donors:

Individuals, groups, and organizations that donate a minimum of $1,000 will be recognized as providing major gifts for the fund. These gifts will be mentioned in all publicity announcements for the fund (through the end of fund-raising campaign) and on the AILA website.

2. Scholarship Donors:

Individuals, groups, and organizations that donate a minimum of $800 will also be recognized in all publicity announcements for the fund (through the end of fund-raising campaign) and on the AILA website.

3. Charter Donors:

Individuals, groups, and organizations that donate a minimum of $500 will also be recognized in all publicity announcements for the fund (through the end of fund-raising campaign) and on the AILA website.

4. Honoraria Donors:

Individuals in this category provide honoraria they have received for the purposes of the endowment fund ($200 minimum, without specific amount noted). These individuals will be recognized during the 12 month period following receipt of their honoraria gift.

5. Fund Donors:

Individuals responding to the fund raising request will be listed in the next issue of AILA News and at the next Congress. (Standard donations amounts include $150, $100, $75, $50, $35, $25; Student donation amounts of $20, $15, and $ 10 will also be accepted and recognized). Of course, any donation of any size will be appreciated.

6. Special Gift Donors:

Any individual, group, or organization wishing to consider a special gift well beyond the categories noted above will be given special recognition. Interest in making a special gift can be discussed with Prof. Dr. Laura Gurzynski-Weiss (AILA Secretary-General) or Prof. Dr. Azirah Hashim (AILA President).
