AFinLA Autumn Symposium 2024 | Nov 7-9, 2024 | Turku, Finland

AFinLA's annual fall symposium will take place this year in Turku on November 7-9, 2024 .

We are living in a time of many changes, where, for example, the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the tensions of world politics and the challenges of sustainable development are shaping society. The theme of the symposium, Language as the key to a changing world, invites to think about the role of language and the perspectives offered by language research in various current changes.

Symposium presentations can examine, among other things, the following questions: What is the role of language, communication and interaction in social change? How can applied language research be used to understand the changes in the world and influence them? How does the rapid development of technology shape the ways of interaction, language learning and teaching or the assessment of language skills? How does language unite and separate people, build communities and produce (ine)equality? What kind of opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation do the changes open up for applied linguists? How do societal changes affect professional language and language skills?

Welcome to the symposium to consider these and many other questions of applied linguistics!
