See: https://aila.info/research/aila-review/invitation-for-proposals/

For those looking to propose book publications, the AILA Applied Linguistics Series (AALS) aims at representing the field in its diversity. As an official publication of AILA, the series include contributors from different geographical and linguistic backgrounds. See: https://aila.info/research/aila-book-series/

Pioneers in AILA

Gerhard Nickel
As we approach 60 years of AILA, it is appropriate to recall the founders of the Association and others who played a key role in AILA’s early days. In this newsletter, we remember Gerhard Nickel who was Secretary General for two terms, 1972 to 1975 and 1975 to 1978. In 1969, he founded the German Association of Applied Linguistics (GAL) and defined its goals over the many years when he served as President. Gerhard was editor-in-chief of the International Review of Applied Linguistics (IRAL). During his long term as a member of the Executive Board of AILA, he held advisory functions for educational policy institutions such as the COUNCIL OF EUROPE and UNESCO.

Endorsement

AILA’s ties with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) go back a long way. Recently, AILA endorsed the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) contributing to raising awareness of social issues among applied linguists. UNESCO leads the implementation of the International Decade of Indigenous languages 2022-2032. ‘The International Decade aims at ensuring indigenous peoples’ right to preserve, revitalize and promote their languages, and maintaining linguistic diversity and multilingualism aspects into the sustainable development efforts’.
